Discover the most radioactive places on Earth

December 19, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

The important difference between ionizing radiation and the sort of radiation you might get with your smartphone is brought to life in this strange tour video. Two sieverts of radiation will kill you. A banana has 0.1 microsieverts.

In order to compare normal radiation (and we can use bananas as comparison now) this brave team goes to some very strange, interesting and radioactive places.

In Pure Spirit

Would you ever suit up and go on a radioactive tour? Or would you much prefer to spend your summer holidays on a beach in the sun?

Out of this world! What caused this alien Russian glow?

November 19, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Motor insurance fraud can be a problem in Russia and so many drivers ride with dashboard cams. That’s why you might find plenty of odd Russian driving videos on YouTube.

This video is one. It’s odd.

What on earth do you think caused that glow in the sky?

Are you tempted to research cheap flights to Russia, find a hotel in Moscow and spend some time on the other side of the world?

Sudden hail storm rips Russian beach

July 17, 2014 by Andrew 1 Comment

It’s a lovely 41 degrees in Novosibirsk in Russia. People have taken to the waters to cool off. That’s when the hurricane force winds and the hail storm struck.

The temperature drops to 21 degrees in just a few minutes. Bathers are forced to take cover. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse – it does.

Can you imagine weather acting like this where you live?

Could asteroid 2012 DA14 hit Earth?

February 15, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

On Thursday a meteor passed through clear skies above Chelyabinsk in Russia. The breakup caused fireballs and a shockwave that blasted windows. Hundreds of people have been injured.

On Friday the 15th the asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass Earth in an unprecedentedly close approach path. It is half the size of a football pitch.

There is no chance of 2012 DA14 hitting Earth, say the experts. You can find out a little more in this FAQ about 2012 DA14; it’ll approach within 17,200 miles and Sumatra, Indonesia will be closest to it when it passes by.

Meanwhile, some of the videos coming out of Russia in the wake of the passing meteor are impressive if somewhat scary.

Does this video show a Woolly Mammoth in Siberia

February 9, 2012 by Andrew 1 Comment

Siberia is simply huge. The landscape is hard to cross and the weather hostile. It’s no surprise that large portions of the wilderness are yet to be explored or documented.

Could something believed to be instinct actually be alive in Siberia?

The British tabloid, The Sun has got their hands on video which may show a Woolly Mammoth crossing a river.

Is it a Woolly Mammoth though? A bear holding a fish? If you think it looks like a small elephant then stop to wonder what an elephant would be doing in Siberia in the first place.

In Pure Spirit

Do you think this is a Woolly Mammoth or some other previously undiscovered creature crossing a stream? Or is this just a familiar creature in an unfamiliar situation and some poor quality video?

Russian woman keeps alien in fridge for two years

November 16, 2011 by Andrew 4 Comments

Could this even possibly be real?

The video below shows a 60cm long creature or object in the fridge of a Russian woman called Marta Yegorovnam. She claims that in 2009 she heard a crash outside, investigated and found the flaming wreckage of an UFO outside. In the crash site she found this “alien”, which was very hot, so she wrapped it in plastic and put in the frdige. As it wasn’t making any sounds she assumed it was dead.

The action took place in city of Petrozavodsk, the capital of the Republic of Karelia. The city has a population of around 250,000 and sits on the western shore of Lake Onega.

What do you think? Can this be real or do you think this is a fake or a mistake?

The Kabansky Alien

April 18, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Start by assuming this video is a clever hoax – even if it looks very real. As you’ll be able to guess from the audio this footage comes from Russia. In fact, the description with the video suggests it’s from the Kabansky (Kabanskiy) district of Russia which is geographically large but relatively small in population; nearly half of the people there live outside cities.

In Pure Spirit

How good is this hoax or do you think this might actually be real? Is there a natural explination for the humanoid but not human figure?

Doesn’t this “alien” fit the standard description of a Roswell Grey?

Russians set up official Yeti research unit

March 23, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

After a series of Yeti sightings in Siberia Russia is setting up an University research institute. The Yeti research unit will be based at Kemerovo State University and lead by Dr Igor Burtsev. Burtserv lead an investigation into some of the Yeti sightings last year.

Dr Igor Burtserv believes around thirty Yetis live near Mount Shoria in southern Siberia and supports sightings that describe the man-like creatures to be heavy-set humanoids, around 7 feet tall and covered in red and black fur.

Dr Burtsev told press;

“In Russia there are about 30 authoritative scientists who are engaged in studying the phenomenon of the ‘Abonimable Snowman’. All of them will be integrated into this institute,’ said Dr Burtsev.

The scientists’ primary goal is to make contact with one of the creatures.

Villagers in the area, however, are more concerned about Yetis stealing their animals. Some locals report bear-like creatures making off with hens and sheep.

Are you a believer? Is it possible that some form of Neandethal man survives in the far flung regions of the world? Or is this nothing but a publicity ploy by the Russian tourism board?

Man versus Nature: triggering an avalanche by shelling the mountain

March 22, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

In this video we see the Russian military use artillery fire to start an avalance. The YouTube poster says this occurs in “North Ossessia” but I wonder if they mean “North Ossetia“. That’s certainly what the caption says! Actually, even the name “Ossetia” is a tricky one. The medieval name for the region was incorperated into the country in 1994. This might be an avalanche in North Ossessia or it may be an avalanche in North Ossetia-Alania.

Either way; this is definately an avalanche caused by troops firing big guns into the side of the mountain. They’ll have done this on purpose; to trigger the avalanche at a time of their own selection, when there is no one supposed to be on the mountain and when people are on high alert. This is a better option than letting nature spring an avalanche on you when she wants.

Does this mean everything goes according to the Russian plan? It’s hard to say. It certainly looks as if the avalanche goes further than expected with the fringe hitting the military and the camera man.

In Pure Spirit

Isn’t this impressive? Who do you think comes off better in this encounter? Man or Nature?

Russian fairy tale wedding video

October 6, 2010 by Andrew 1 Comment

Okay, this is a slightly odd video for In Pure Spirit to share as we don’t normally do weddings – but this wedding is odd enough to share.

Picture the scene; a bride and groom meet in a fairy enhanted woodlands. She blows magical kisses at him that knocks him off his feet. They play catch the fairy. They’re haunted by ghostly doves.

I don’t think words can do this justice. We need the video.
