Russians set up official Yeti research unit

March 23, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

After a series of Yeti sightings in Siberia Russia is setting up an University research institute. The Yeti research unit will be based at Kemerovo State University and lead by Dr Igor Burtsev. Burtserv lead an investigation into some of the Yeti sightings last year.

Dr Igor Burtserv believes around thirty Yetis live near Mount Shoria in southern Siberia and supports sightings that describe the man-like creatures to be heavy-set humanoids, around 7 feet tall and covered in red and black fur.

Dr Burtsev told press;

“In Russia there are about 30 authoritative scientists who are engaged in studying the phenomenon of the ‘Abonimable Snowman’. All of them will be integrated into this institute,’ said Dr Burtsev.

The scientists’ primary goal is to make contact with one of the creatures.

Villagers in the area, however, are more concerned about Yetis stealing their animals. Some locals report bear-like creatures making off with hens and sheep.

Are you a believer? Is it possible that some form of Neandethal man survives in the far flung regions of the world? Or is this nothing but a publicity ploy by the Russian tourism board?
