The ghost of the Duchess of Lauderdale photographed at Ham House?

In June of 2009 Elaine Della Camera and boyfriend Colin Iles visited the historic building and heard a growl while they were touring the lower floor. Although she could see nothing out of the ordinary at the time, Elaine turned around and took a picture.

The picture shows a ghostly shape. Iles believes his girlfriend has captured evidence that the ghosts of the Duchess of Lauderdale and her dog are roaming the mansion.

The haunted Ship Inn and other ghosts of Acaster Malbis

Acaster Malbis is a village less than ten miles away from the historic city of York. It is thought that the village’s name may come from a Roman settlement. The word ‘castra’ means ‘camp’ in Latin and perhaps Malbis relates to the land-owning Malbis family who lived there.

The Ship Inn

The new owners of The Shop Inn by the River Ouse have reported a number of ghostly incidents. It is thought that the pub is haunted by Bob the Stoker, a regular of the inn until his death. The fire in the pub has been reported as lighting itself – despite having four pints of water poured on it. The nickname “Bob the Stocker” was give to Bob, who died 50 years ago, because he would sit and constantly stoke the same fire.

The new pub manager, Alan Deans, told local press that a lamp has also been known to fly off its shelf in the bar.

The Ship Inn’s owner, Carol Temple, has also admitted to press that she has had her own ghostly encounter, “I had bent down to get something out of a cupboard and I felt a cold shiver, so I stood up and turned around and I saw a grey figure coming past me – it was only about a foot away from me.

Stratford Ghostfest

Ghost hunters Fright Nights will bring the four day Ghost Festival to Stratford-upon-Avon and feature ghost walks, investigations, paranormal workshops, psychic fairs and séances.

The commercial organisation will sell tickets to these events from between £9 and £29 pounds.

One of the United Kingdom’s most haunted sites – the Falstaff’s Experience – will feature in the event. Fright Nights has organised celebrity medium and exorcist, Ian Lawman, will be sent to the Falstaff’s Experience to try and contact John Davies and other spirits. Most Haunted viewers may remember John Davis as one of the most violent spirits the TV show encountered.

The ghost of Ronald Reagan

Nancy Reagan, ex-president Ronald Reagan’s widow, has revealed to Vanity Fair that she often talks to his ghost.

“At night-time, if I wake up, I think Ronnie’s there and I start to talk to him. It’s not important what I say – but the fact is, I do think he’s there. And I see him,” she told the magazine.

Reagan was speaking from her home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, where the 40th president of the United States of America died in 2004. He was 93 and had battled against Alzheimers.

Ruthin Gaol

On 17th February in 1903 William Hughes was hanged in the jail and his body buried in the grounds. Hughes, from Denbugh, had fought with the British army in India, separated from his wife in 1901 after the death of one of their children.

William was prosecuted for “family desertion” and in 1902 was sentenced to three months in the gaol. He was released in November 1902, procured a double-barrel gun, went to the home where his wife was working and shot her dead.

Hughes surrendered to the police. Despite a plea of insanity he was found guilty of murder, the jury taking only ten minutes to decide his fate.

He was executed at 8 o’clock in the morning and it is said the last thing he did before his death was look at a photograph of his family.

Are the Slough and Langley Observer headquarters haunted?

Investigators from Southern Paranormal were invited to spend the night looking for spirits in the 14th century building owned by the Slough and Langley Observer in Datchet Road.

The team discovered the presence of a possible two spirits in the building. The first ghost encountered by the newspaper reporter and Southern Paranormal is described as a large man, dressed in rough clothes and who carries an aura of importance.

Female members of the paranormal investigate group agreed that the presence seemed unwilling to communicate with them. The man is believed to have lived around the 14th century and be called Egbert.

New ghostly photograph from Inverary Jail

Scottish visitor attraction Inverary Jail has released a photograph of a ghostly shape hovering at the surface.

Built by the side of Loch Fyne in Argyll, the former prison is widely reported to be haunted and visited often by paranormal investigators.

Inside the jail most sightings are reported in or around cell 10. Gavin Dick, manager of the attraction, said; “During the height of the X Files days we used to call it Cell X for obvious reasons.”

The Fowey Hotel

It is said that the restaurant in Fowey Hotel is haunted. Visitors sensitive to spirits have reported seeing a man – perhaps a soldier or a sailor – in a state of distress and pleading his innocence.

The third floor hallway is also believed to be visited by a ghost as guests have reported the sounds of footsteps in the night.

Could Fowey Hotel’s wine cellar be haunted? Some have suggested the room is unusually cold and that a dark presence can sometimes be felt in the corner.

The ghost in the haunted hotel room in the listed Cambridgeshire building is believed to hate fire. Known as Mary, she is believed to have died of smoke inhalation in the same room.

Jean Axelsen, cook at the George Hotel, told the press, “It is strange that the fire was contained to that one room and did not spread.
