World’s most dangerous and haunted roads

January 27, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This infographic has been put together by a loan company and shows an impressive collection of dangerous roads. North Yungas Road sounds horrible, just 3 metres wide and with between 100 to 300 deaths every year. Would you risk it?

We can only speculate that the loan company was suggesting that driving was a dangerous business so maybe you’ll need the cash for repairs or car insurance? Let’s hope it wasn’t a hint to those poor souls stuck in the debt trap!

The infographic also looks at haunted roads and has the Tuen Mun Road in Hong Kong in first place. It’s another dangerous road with many blind spots and the locals believe that victims of crashes on the road come back as ghosts, haunt the roadside… and cause even more crashes.

Super rare: Spinning circle of ice caught on camera

December 1, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This spinning circle of ice was captured on camera by George Loegering. The retired engineer was out and about on the banks of the Sheyenne River in North Dakota when he witnessed the rare weather phenomenon.

The spinning ice is odd because water normally still water freezes and water flowing quickly enough to swirl and whirl breaks up ice. In this instance experts suggest that there was an eddy in the river at just the right speed and the cold, dense air was just right to encourage the ice to form on top.

The Mirror Lake sign photo

March 18, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Isn’t this a fantastic photograph? A bit of web searching suggests the picture is many years old and that the name original photographer is lost to Antiquity.

Mirror Lake

The question is: Where is Mirror Lake? There’s a Mirror Lake in France but given the language on this sign it is unlikely this is the right Mirror Lake. As it turns out, perhaps surprising no one, Mirror Lake is a common name. There’s a small pond called Mirror Lake on the campus of The Ohio State University. This is also very likely to be the wrong Mirror Lake.

Most likely this Mirror Lake is from Tenaya Creek in the Yosemite National Park in the United States.

Have you seen the Mirror Lake sign photograph before? Do you know who the original photographer is?

What do you think about the sign? Silly or smart?

Is this Bigfoot?

August 7, 2012 by Andrew Leave a Comment

We’re used to blurry images of shapes behind trees or highly unlikely looking humanoids when it comes to photographs of Bigfoot. Sometimes the most realistic and believable photographs turn out to be part of a clever viral marketing campaign.

So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at this photograph.

The photographer is unnamed (but not unknown) and a game trapper from Alberta. A woman, who wasn’t at the scene when the photograph was taken, called Penny and a friend of the trapped uploaded the image to Facebook. She denies this is some sort of escaped gorilla.

“I know this person. They are a dogsledder and would in no way be the type to try to fool around with fake pictures. They actually think it’s a bear and cub but for some reason they only have one photo. Strange.”

Bear? Gorilla?

Hoax?

What are your thoughts on this photograph? If this isn’t Bigfoot – could this photograph perhaps explain why people sometimes mistake bears for Bigfoot?

The Alexandria monster

August 28, 2011 by Andrew 2 Comments

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recorded a rather strange roadkill. The official explination is that the body is of a badger that has lost its hair – perhaps during the decomposition process.

Even the officals admit the pictures show an odd looking animal. Speaking to the StarTribune, fur-bearer specialist Jason Abraham said;

“If you look at the picture, it is weird-looking,”

“If there were four or five of these found on the road, we might have a bit more interest.”

What do you think? Does this look like a badger that’s lost its fur to you?
