Vampires, sex and NHS Dentists in Portsmouth

Looking for a Dentist in Portsmouth? This video may interest you. Actually, given the video features one sexy lady and one dashing vampire I suspect the video will interest people many thousands of miles away from Portsmouth too.

If I wanted to be cynical I might suggest the good people of Portsmouth are probably battling with long NHS waiting lists rather than spending their time fending off vampires with cutting remarks like “Looks like something died in there!”

Vanessa Hudgens teased by playful ghost

The 3D movie Journey to the Center of the Earth was a $100 million success. I don’t mind admitting that I rather enjoyed it.

When there’s a $100 million hit movie there’s a sequel. The second film is “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island“. The cast is a little different. Josh Hutcherson stays on to play Sean Anderson but there’s no Brendan Fraser as Travor Anderson. The new cast includes Michael Caine, Luis Guzman, Kristin Davis and the action star will be Dwayne Johnson. Vanessa Hudgens has the role as the lead starlet.

Filming is going on North Carolina. It seems Vanessa Hudgen’s over night stays has involved some rather cheeky entertainment from a local ghost.

This is what she told local press;

I kept on hearing a creak in my hallway and I was, like, ‘I have to figure out what this sound is…’

“I walk over and I hear a creak to my right and I thought it was, like, rainfall or a leak, so I step over to the right… and I look down and I hear it to the left, so I step over to the left, look up, look down, step over to the right, look up, look down… It kept moving around.

“Finally, I was like, ‘You know what ghost, thanks for having me here. You do your thing; I’m gonna go.’ I was so terrified.”

The Super Moon strands five ships

The Super Moon on the 19th of March, when the Moon was the closest it has been to the Earth for 19 years, is likely to have caused a series of nautical accidents off the coast of the United Kingdom.

The moon effects tides and in the Solent, between the Isle of Wight and the Hampshire coast sandbanks that are normally covered by the sea where uncovered and became a danger to shipping. The Daily Mail reports that coastguards at the Isle of Wight had to deal with five ships in distress.

The stranded ships included a 25 foot yacht and a 2,900 tonne cargo ship. A coastguard told the newspaper;

We checked them all and there were no injuries, just some surprise at being caught out like this. Blame it on the Moon.

WWF 50th anniversay stamps

The WWF has teamed up with the Royal Mail to celebrate their 50th anniversay. The action charity has had a set of 14 special WFF postage stamps created. There is a different threatened species on each stamp, four stamps appear in the collectable “miniature sheet” to highlight work they’ve done in the Amazon rainforest and two are “intelligent stamps” that can be scanned with a smartphone and the Junaio app.

The stamps are available for purchase from the Royal Mail or the WWF Shop from the 22nd of March.

I’m particularly impressed with the intelligent stamps. If you have the Junaio app and scan either the elephant or tiger stamp then you’ll get access to the exclusive video footage.

Fungus transforms ants into zombie slaves

The BBC have YouTubed a short video from Sir David Attenborough and the Planet Earth TV program that showcases the rather horrid Cordyceps fungi.

Cordyceps fungi prays on live insects and takes control of their body and mind. The video shows one strain of the Cordyceps fungus as it takes over the body and thoughts of an ant, driving the ant up to a lofty position on a plant – a tactical choice – before slowly errupting from the ant’s head.

As the video says fungi like Cordyceps help to keep the balance in nature; stopping one insect from becoming too dominant in the forest.
