LastTissue: Save 2 litres of water each time you blow your nose

January 28, 2020 by Andrew Leave a Comment

LastTissue is the latest idea from a Danish company trying to save the world. We chop through millions of trees and pollute millions of gallons of water just for yucky disposable tissues.

Is there a better way?

[Back this Campaign]

Every year 8,000,000 trees are felled just for American sneezes alone. That kills of habitat and therefore wildlife. At the same time, trees are no longer there to soak up the carbon emissions that are destroying the atmosphere.

The company behind LastTissue is LastObject, and they have a mission.

Is LastTissue a good idea, or is it just a yucky gimmick?

Flashmob: Tested on Humans and recycling

March 22, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This is a flashmob video from the Canadian group Testé sur des humains (Tested on Humans). The video is simple but incredibly powerful. I challenge you to watch it without smiling.

Yeah. The video is in French but that’s not a problem. The goal is to see whether anyone bothers to make the tiny effort needed to recycle the dropped plastic bottle. If you’re wondering about the quotes they are:

Each year, 671 million Kg of plastic are produced around the world.

Each year, 400 million refundable bottles and cans are not recycled in Quebec.

There are 18 000 pieces of plastic floating on every Km2 of ocean.

91% of Quebecers care about the environment. Do you?

In Pure Spirit

It’s a good situation to challenge yourself with. Hand on your heart and be honest – would you walk past the bottle or do you think you’d stoop to pick it up and drop it in the recycling bin?

Selling your old o2 mobile phone

May 25, 2010 by Andrew Leave a Comment

I’ve had a quick look into which of the mobile operators let you sell your phone back to them.

Turns out o2 have the lead in this area and operate o2 Recycle.

Now, o2 was the first network in the UK to be allowed to sell Apple’s famous iPhone. A glance at the site suggests you can sell your iPhone back to them for over £200. That’s pretty impressive. You don’t even have to be trying to sell your old o2 mobile phone as the site says they’ll accept phones from any networks and even gadgets like GPS systems.

I predict the other operators will get into this market pretty swiftly. In fact, they may already be here but haven’t grown their offering into anything I noticed. I also predict there will be more people looking to sell their o2 mobile phone as time goes on, as people become much more aware of this option – good for the environment and good for mobile adoption in the third world too.

Have you used any of these mobile phone recycling options? Which would you recommend?

Boots do digital recycling – club card points for your old mobile

It seems that you can’t make it through a TV program these days without encountering an advert from a company trying to buy your mobile phone.

I’m sure all of these companies are trustworthy. However, when I stumble across Books Recycling my ears perked up.

Boots don’t pay you cash. Instead, you get given club card points – this is significant as Boots already has one of the most generous club cards out there on the high street.

  • A Nokia N73 is worth 5,166 points
  • A 4th gen Apple iPod is worth 583 points
  • A BlackBerry Pearl 8100 is worth 1,995 points
  • A Canon PowerShot A1000 IS gets you 1,666 points

What do you think? Is this a better deal than the cash converters?

Do you feel more comfortable Boots offering this service than the other newer companies?
