Listen for free: Be amazed at these ancient Sumerian songs

January 8, 2015 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Sumer is the original “land of the civilized kings” and was one of the first ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia. The god of beneficence, Enki, is Sumerian, as if Enlil the lord of ghost-land, Sin the moon god and even An who was the god of heaven.

Now musician Stef Conner learned how to read and pronounce several ancient Babylonian and Sumerian records to re-create their sounds. This is both art and science. The Soundcloud embed above lets you listen to the results and you’ll be amazed at how it sounds.

In Pure Spirit

What do you think? You’ve heard ancient Sumerian songs recreated from original records. Are you a fan? Have you taken any empowerment away from this music?

This is what the Aztec Death Whistle sounds like

December 1, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

It is thought that the Aztec Whistles of Death were used used in a few locations across ancient Mexico. The reason why death whistles were created, sadly, has been lost to history.

Examples of the death whistle have been found at the Ehecatl temple at Tlatelolco. Ehecatl is a wind god and the association with a whistle seems strong.

In Pure Spirit

If you had the chance would you listen to an old wizard play the death whistle?

Whether you agree with Nestle’s corporate social responsibility policies or not there’s a good chance you’ll be using one of their pet food brands if you’ve an animal or two. They own Purina and Friskies, for example, the company founded in 1930 as a dog food producers and then expanding into cat food 28 years later.

Grumpy cat headlines in this feline music video along with Colonel Meow, Oskar the Blind Cat, Nala Cat and Hamilton the Hipster Cat.

Which is your favourite kitty in the music video? I think Colonel is quite impressive and a somewhat unemotional ball of fluff.

Once and a while an advert it worth a watch. This ad for Trident Fresh chewing gum is one of those. It features the sort of pet shop that might well be magical. The animals in this mysterious shop are certainly special. Perhaps this is the sort of mystical portal you can find by exploring the lesser used allies of any big city?
