Dallol: Alien landscape on Earth

These pictures are from Russian photographer Victoria Rogotneva and are intended as a fair use sample of her fantastic work.

This alien landscape on Earth is actually Dallol, a volcanic explosion crater, in Ethiopia. It came into being after an erruption in 1926.

The crators (or “maar” if you want to use the technical term) are the lowest known in the world. They’re 45m below sea level.
