A volcano on Io

September 3, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Io, Jupiter’s moon, is one of the most volcanically active worlds in the Solar System. It has hundreds of volcanoes and some eruptions reach some 250 miles high. That’s not 250 metres high – that’s 250 miles high.

In other words, you can see some of Io’s volcanic eruptions from space. You can see them a long way off in space as this incredible picture shows.

io

The picture was taken during a flyby of Jupiter in 2007, it shows a huge eruption on Io’s night side from a volcano called Tvashtar. This is one of the 250 miles high eruptions we were warned about.

Have you ever seen anything like this? Could you even imagine such a large volcano and eruption?

You can read more about Io and the moon’s volcanoes at NASA.gov.

Wonderful Maori carvings at Mine Bay, Lake Taupo, New Zealand

May 30, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Mine Bay on Lake Taupo

Lake Taupo is the largest lake, by surface area, in New Zealand. It’s a freshwater lake too that sits in a caldera created by a super volcano about 27,000 years ago.

There are still hot springs in the area, especially at the Horomatangi vent and the volcano is considered dormant and not extinct.

These carvings were done by local Maori and look simply wonderful.

Have you ever had a holiday in New Zealand? Would you like to go or do have you have any recommendations for tourists planning to fly to New Zealand?

Volcano blowing smoke rings

August 17, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

It is possible but very rare – volcanoes can blow smoke rings.

This footage was taken at the infamous Mount Etna in 2000. It’s a long video but we get straight to the smoke rings. You can watch as much as you like – enough to convince yourself this is no video photoshop!

Photograph of UFO at exploding volcano?

July 10, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

The erruption of the Puyehue volcano in Chile was a dramatic one. It caused air chaos and thousands of people found themselves trapped abroad or unable to fly when they wanted too. It also produced some fantastic videos and photograph.

The erruption of Puyehue, although entirely natural, resulted in some alien looking photography. EriGIA007 runs a large UFO, aliens and Paranormal channel on YouTube and has published a video highlights something odd by the volcano.

I say “odd” because the shape looks a number of circles in the sky above the volcano. I don’t think this is an alien at all. The volcano is spewing stuff up and into the air, all sorts of rocks and rubble and I think that’s our answer.

Take a look at the video for yourself;

What do you think? Is this something not of our Earth? Or are those shapes entirely organic and natural?

Chilean volcano creates alien landscape on Earth

June 19, 2011 by Andrew 1 Comment

This video shows what was once Lake Nahuel Huapi in Argentina. The eruption of the Puyehue volcano has sent an incredible volume of ash up into the air. Flights have had to be cancelled. The volcanic ash also has significant effects when it comes back down again.

Lake Nahuel Huapi has a surface area of 529 km2. It’s not small at all. Can you imagine the amount of ash required to produce the alien landscape effect we see in the video below.

Have you or anyone you know been effected by the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle eruption?

Dallol: Alien landscape on Earth

March 25, 2011 by Andrew Leave a Comment

These pictures are from Russian photographer Victoria Rogotneva and are intended as a fair use sample of her fantastic work.

This alien landscape on Earth is actually Dallol, a volcanic explosion crater, in Ethiopia. It came into being after an erruption in 1926.

The crators (or “maar” if you want to use the technical term) are the lowest known in the world. They’re 45m below sea level.

In Pure Spirit

Have you ever seen anything like it? Isn’t it beautifully strange? I recommend visiting Rogotneva’s site and checking out the rest.
