Hood Hill’s Druid crash site desecrated

The North York Moors National Park and the Forestry Commission was joined by The Ministry of Defence in calls to put an end to the macabre and dangerous quest for the remains of a British aircraft.

A mystery crash brought Flying Officer Colin “Snatch” Grabham’s Sabre aircraft down on Hood Hill in 1954.

Collectors with metal detectors have be seen with metal detectors attemping to find either pieces of the historic Sabre aircraft or the crash site.

The ghost family of The Chequers pub

The Chequers pub on Reading Road in the Hampshire town of Eversley is believed to be haunted by up to eight different ghosts.

The pub has been the centre of haunting phenomena for some time now; lights turning themselves on, sudden cold spots and kitchen items moving themselves. The presence of a little boy known as “Jack” has been reported by others – including the previous landlord.

Angela Turner, the landlady, told local press one story which featured a young girl who became separated from her parents. She was found in the restaurant toilets, “Her parents heard her scream and she said ‘Mummy, there has been a lady talking to me’, but there was no-one there.”

Protester Arthur Pendragon ordered from Stonehenge

Arthur Pendragon, formerly known as John Rothwell before his deed poll name change 30 years ago, has been ordered by the English Courts to leave Stonehenge.

The pagan protester is 10 months into a Stonehenge sit-in against the enforced restricted access to the world famous stone circle. Pendragon believes not only should visitors be able to walk through the stone circles at any time but they should be able to touch them.

In particular, Pendragon is upset at the fence that has been added to the site in order to keep visitors away. The druid suggested the religious site was now “in a stranglehold like a snared animal”. The visitor centre is also under criticism. He said: “It was supposed to be a temporary building. It’s awful. It is a national disgrace so what I am hoping to do by my protest is embarrass the government.”

Britain’s Most Talented Pet

The Ultimate Pet Show this year will attempt to find Britain’s Most talented Pet. Held in the NEC Birmingham, this year, between the 2nd of May and the 4th of may the Ultimate Pet Show will feature dancing dogs, singing horses and piano playing pussy-cats.

Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson will feature alongside judges Kevin Sacre, the UnderDog winner, and Marc Abraham, TV vet and the dog behaviourist Caroyyn Meneith.

The winner of the competition – held on the 2nd of May – will walk off with prizes worth £250 including a digital camera and a professional pet photography shoot.

Four ancient Egyptian temples discovered on the Way of Horus

Xinhuanet has reported that four temples have been unearthed near Qantara near the Suez Canal. One of the temples is believed to be the largest mud brick temple found in the important Sinai region.

One temple included decorations dedicated to Ramses I and Ramses II. The grandeur and scale of the temples lead experts to suggest that they may have been paramount in impressing foreign dignitaries visiting Egypt.

Headless ghost at the National University of Singapore

The Singapore newspaper Sin Chew Daily has reported that the National University of Singapore has been forced to warn students of a ghost of a headless woman who has been roaming the campus.

The signboard with the warning has been placed at the front entrance to the university’s Federal Building in the Bukit Timah campus.

Pendle Hill witch curse strikes down three film makers

A new documentary on Pendle Hill and the Pendle Witches was brought to a dramatic stop this week when three of the production crew were struck down with a violent illness. The incident happened during the filming of a séance.

Roy Basnett, the renowned broadcaster and ghost-hunter, and investigators from Pathfinder PI had been attempting to contact the spirits of the witches in a barn on the hill.

Mosaic of pagan cult found in the Cathedral of Reggio Emilia

A 13 square metre mosaic pavement which depicts pagan rites and oriental gods has been found by archaelogists working in the Catholic cathedral in central-northern Italy. [Pagan Cult Mosaic Found Under Cathedral]

Superintendent of Archaeological Heritage in Emilia Romagna, Luigi Malnati, said, “this is one of the most important and interesting mosaics in northern Italy. It stands out for its size, design and refined technique.”

Discovery News was told by Renta Curina, the archaeologist in charge of the dig, “The size and design of the mosaic pavement suggest that it formed the floor of a huge room. We believe this was the residence of a wealthy Roman,”

High Peak Estate

The High Peak Estate is an area of moorland protected by The National Trust.

The dramatic Pennne moorland is a popular location for walkers even in the winter and for bird watchers. In particular the moorland around Derwent Edge is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to the Mountain Hare, Ring Ouzel, Eurasian Golden Plover and the Red Grouse.

Odin Mine, also in High Peak Estate, is one of the oldest lead mines in the country and has become disused.

The Kinderlow Bowl Barrow is situated in a south-western spur of the Kinder Scout plateau. The Barrow, currently fenced off, is an early Bronze Age (2000 to 1500 BC), burial mound. It is a scheduled monument and protected from damage legally by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.
