Tropical dates: 22 May to 21 June
Sidereal dates: June 15 to July 15 (approx)
Representation: Two children
Ruling planet and groupings: Mercury; masculine, mutable and air
Associations:

  • Colour: Yellow
  • Flowers: Lavender, Lily of the Valley
  • Gemstone: Agate
  • Trees: Nut trees

Traits

Gemini often have fantastic communication skills. These skills, however, run the risk of becoming a drive. Gemini are typically lively and versatile but also prone to nervous energy and the occasional inconsistency.  Gemini are good at learning but often settle for knowing a little about a lot.

Family

Geminians are sometimes prone to chaotic relationships as their intelligent curiosity and bursts of energy come into play. The best partnerships are ones where the Gemini can find someone who matches their intellectual needs or who allows them the freedom to explorer their intellectual distractions.

Business

Typically, Geminians are good with money. It is common to find Gemini working in banks or as accountants. As good communicators Gemini can also found working for the media or in advertising. The trademark Gemini burst of nervous energy can sometimes cause them to miss the small details and this sometimes prevents the Geminian from securing management positions.

In Pure Spirit

Do you think it becomes necessary to draw the line at the amount of space Gemini have to explore their academic interests when it comes to maintaining a healthy relationship?

Traits

Pisceans are typically family orientated. They’ll put other people before themselves and are often deeply caring and sympathetic. As a rule Pisceans tend to be sensitive and intuitive which allows them to pick up on other people’s emotions and hastens their desire to help out should someone else need it. Pisceans are accused sometimes of being in danger of achieving nothing by trying to avoid taking on problems head on. At other times, Pisceans can sometimes be too quick to get involved in other people’s problems.

Family

The right Piscean can make for the perfect partner. Their self-sacrificing outlook often means they’ll make that extra effort in order to make their partner happy. In turn they need partners who do not take advantage should the Piscean show a lack of willpower common to the sign.  Pisceans typically love children but sometimes need to rise to the challenge in order to avoid being too soft.

Business

Many Pisceans do not have the cut throat attitude required in some businesses but they make excellent supporting partners. The typical Piscean insight is often extremely useful in business decision making.  Pisceans make fantastic carers and teachers.

The Year of the Ox – the earth Ox

January 26, 2009 by Andrew Leave a Comment

year of the ox chinaToday is the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox. 2009, according to Wu Xing, is an Earth year and so today is the start of the Earth Ox year.

The Ox

The Ox is yin in polarity and associated with the element of water. People born in this year will have Oynx as a birthstone.

Ox is a hallmark of quite hardwork and stalwart determination. People born in the Year of the Ox are often born to lead. Although they can be quite they are dependable and naturally achieve what they need to achieve. Despite success, the Ox often remains modest, calm and tireless. However, those born to the Year of the Ox sometimes need quiet and time to reach their goals and once set on a target they can be tenacious in reaching it.

Ox tend to be grounded in common sense and logical. Although security is important them so is kindness and care. The Ox enjoys helping other people and dislikes being in debt or flying by wire.

Earth

Earth is balanced yin and yang and equally masculine and feminine. Earth, like the Ox (which is a water associated animal) represents hard work, patience but also stubbornness.

People born in the Year of the Earth Ox are especially likely to be hard workers but also prone to being stubborn.

Love compatibility for the Year of the Ox

The Ox is most compatible with people born in the Year of the Snake, Rooster or Rat.

How to celebrate the Chinese New Year

  • Have a clean house – It is considered wise to sweep away any bad luck that might have built up during the previous year
  • Decorate – Red is a lucky colour. It is common to hang red paper decorations on winds and doors.
  • Don’t clean for a day or so – Avoid sweeping away the good luck the new year brings, don’t clean for the first day or two
  • Offer a Nian Gao to the Kitchen God – Leave a Chinese sticky cake out for Zao Jun
  • Gift packets of money – Give a little money wrapped in red paper to children
  • Use a Tray of Togetherness – A circular or octagonal shaped tray with eight compartments filled with symbolic foods

We wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year. How do you plan on celebrating?

Independent and sometimes stubborn, Aquarians often have a real wish to help but may not always appear that way. Sometimes unreliable Aquarians can also be highly creative and inspiring. Aquarians are prone to being unconventional but generally remain positive.

Family

Aquarians may struggle with emotional ties and this is due to their independence. Once they’ve found a strong partner they tend to remain totally faithful.  Aquarians are supportive of children but may be, once again, a little unconventional with schooling and care.

Business

Freedom seeking and independent, Aquarians do not tend to work well with restrictive bosses or workplace situations. Often very technical and able in nature, Aquarians are generally able to attend to a wide range of occupations; from science through to social work.

Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotisa or Hindu astrology, is an ancient system which is still widely used today.

Vedic astrology is interested in the connections between the macrocosm and microcosm and the concept of bandhu from the Vedas. The sidereal zodiac is used (rather than the Western tropical zodiac) as this allows for the precession of the vernal equinox.

The Vedic system tends to look at Rashi (zodiac), Bhava (houses) and Graha (planets). The Bhava is a zodiacal division based on local time and location.

The Rashi

  • Mesa – Ram; Western Name: Aries; Element: Fire
  • Vrsabha – Bull; Western Name: Taurus; Element: Earth

  • Makara – Sea-monster; Western Name: Capricorn; Element: Earth
  • Kumbha – Pitcher; Western Name: Aquarius; Element: Air
  • Mina – Fish; Western Name: Pisces; Element: Water

The Bhava

  • Lagna – Health, purpose of life, appearance
  • Dhana – Inheritance, wealth, family
  • Parakrama – Short journeyes, education, younger siblings
  • Suhrda – Home, mother, property
  • Suta – Lover, gambling, recreation, children
  • Roga – Enemies, foreigners, servants

Have you made use of Vedic astrology? How did it compare? Is it significant that Vedic astrology uses sidereal zodiac rather than tropical?
