The werewolf of Brazil… or just a chimp?

February 24, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This video claims to show a werewolf caught on camera.

The clip is less than a minute and grainy. It does follow a series of sightings in which people had reported seeing a strange creature near the town of São Gonçalo de Campos in the state of Bahia.

In Pure Spirit

Do you think this is a werewolf or other cryptid? Could this just be a chimpanzee?

The (almost) unbelievable story of 007 the crow – watch it yourself

February 10, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

The phrase “bird brained” isn’t appropriate here. This crow, nicknamed 007, shows almost unbelievable problem solving skills as it solves 8 puzzles, in the right order, in the right way to access food.

The bird had seen the individual elements before but this was the first time the pieces had been arranged like this. Watch the video and ask yourself whether you’d do so well in the Crystal Maze or problem solving TV show. It’s impressive stuff.

In Pure Spirit

Do you think we’ve under estimated the intelligence of animals as a whole? Or do we over credit animals; is it wrong to do things like delay sea defense projects in order to study the possible impact it might have on bird-life in the area?

The hypnotic destruction of Coke by lava

January 23, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

We’ve all seen “Will it blend?” destruction videos so let’s go one up and apply some super hot lava.

This video is oddly hypnotic. You don’t have to worry about what happens to the shiny red Coca Cola can but you might be curious to see what happens when the lava reaches it. Filmed on a Nikon D800 and a Gopro, this video has a number of angles and Lavapix destroy a few cans of cola.

My favourite is right at the end.

What would you like to see destroyed by lava?

If you wanted to see some lava on your holidays where would you go? Anyone know?

Food for Thought: Should we eat bugs?

January 4, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This animation by Emma Bryce makes the case that we should consider eating bugs. You’ll probably have to watch it before you’d even consider the idea.

The animation was bone by Neighbor and if the narration sounds familiar it is because you’re hearing the voice of Addison Anderson who’s featured on TED-Ed before.

In Pure Spirit

Would you eat bugs? Do you think we should start to farm them more seriously?

Fisheye lens time-lapse of Leonid and Zodiacal light

December 24, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This impressive time-lapse video was created by Stephane Vetter using a Sigma 8mm fisheye lens. The fisheye lens means you get a truer image of the visible sky.

The Leonids is a meteor shower, named after the constellation of Leo as they seem to radiate from that point in the sky. The Lenoids are most active in November and large storms might see as many as 1,000 meteors per hour.

What do you make of the timelapse? Simply incredible or does the night sky fail to hold your attention? After all; it’s something you can see every day.

The events that made the world a smaller place in 2013

December 22, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This video was made by Jean-Louis Nguyen to showcase all the events, videos and stories that brought people together in 2013. These are the pictures that made the world a smaller place.

What do you make of Jean-Louis’ video. Which event of 2013 moved you the most?

When glaciers attack

December 22, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This video footage comes from Steve Leonard and Arctic expert Jason Roberts looking for Polar Bears. Trouble starts early on and the video as their little boat snags on something and the engine cuts out. The engine cuts out right underneath a sheer ice wall. It’s a dangerous place to stall.

Would you ever go on a trip to either the Arctic or Antarctica? Companies like Responsible Travel offer eco-friendly holidays out there but it’s not cheap. An Antarctica and New Zealand Subantarctic Islands Wildlife Cruise will set you back up to $29,000.

27 festive holiday traditions that may surprise you

December 19, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Do you know where the mistletoe Christmas kiss tradition comes from? Is it Christian? What about Santa? Does he wear that red suit because he was coloured that way by a Coke-a-Cola advertising campaign? What secret Hanukkah practises are still going on today?

This video from the every entertaining Mental Floss is a fun and informative few minutes.

In Pure Spirit

Are you surprised at all the pagan origins to the Christmas holiday that we know today? Or do you disagree with this video and suggest they’ve got their facts wrong?

An impressive way to spend $25,000

December 17, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Imagine the scenario; you’ve just been offered $25,000 to promote 20th Century Fox’s new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

This is a movie in which a day-dreaming office worker escapes his humdrum life with flights of fantasy only to find himself on a real adventure. You could do almost anything with that money.

Casey Neistat choice to take all $25,000 of it to the Philippines in the wake of the typhoon and use the cash to help out. Amazingly and impressively, 20th Century Fox agreed and Casey flew off with the cash.

This is the video they made.

If you were offered $25,000 to make a video to promote a movie what would you do?

The weird birth of an Espresso

December 15, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This is a slow motion video of an espresso been made with a machine. You can hear slow motion sounds in the background so my suggestion play it on mute and listen to your own surreal music.

In Pure Spirit

Makes you think, doesn’t it? Are you any less or more likely to order an espresso the next time you’re in a store?
