How the last star in the universe might save humanity

February 2, 2016 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Did you know our star will die?

The Kurzgesagt “In a Nutshell” video on red dwarfs is fascinating. We learn about a whole host of stars – brown dwarfs, blue dwarfs and even white and black dwarfs. I had no idea there were so many types of stars.

Until I watched this quick science lesson I hadn’t thought it would be possible to live with the assistance of the red dwarf. Sure, okay, there will be challenges but it’s good to know it’ll be possible as all of humanity may have to move one day.

Fisheye lens time-lapse of Leonid and Zodiacal light

December 24, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This impressive time-lapse video was created by Stephane Vetter using a Sigma 8mm fisheye lens. The fisheye lens means you get a truer image of the visible sky.

The Leonids is a meteor shower, named after the constellation of Leo as they seem to radiate from that point in the sky. The Lenoids are most active in November and large storms might see as many as 1,000 meteors per hour.

What do you make of the timelapse? Simply incredible or does the night sky fail to hold your attention? After all; it’s something you can see every day.

Dr Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a hugely respected astrophysicist. TIME magazine made it possible for people to ask him questions and one such question was “What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the Universe?”

His answer was good. His answer is in the video below.

Do you agree? Is this the most amazing fact? Or does this answer stray too far from religion for your tastes?
