Is your freezer haunted? Do strange spikes form on your ice cubes?

March 19, 2016 by Andrew 1 Comment

There are concerns that strange spikes of ice forming in your freezer, reaching up from ice cubes and towards the door is a sign of supernatural activity in your kitchen.

You shouldn’t be worried. Ice spikes are perfectly natural and we have the science to explain what’s going on.

Over a million people have watched Veritasium’s video which suggests the ice spike phenomena was of widespread interest.

Long time readers of In Pure Spirit might remember this cute kitchen Nessie. She was an ideal ladle for soup and chillis but maybe this Loch Ness monster was a little lonely.

Now there’s this baby Nessie for straining your tea. How cute!

It gets even better because OTOTO have designed a whole family of Nessies for your kitchen. The catch? You have to pre-order now and wait because they’re very popular and keep selling out.

Nessie_Family_-_Product_grandeI’ve actually seen the original Nessie ladle available in some high street retailers in recent months. This means the cute Loch Ness monster design has been a global hit. There’s no need to keep up with the neighbours but sometimes it is a little bit nice to have the fashionable things first. Want to be first with the Nessie ladles? You’ll need to pre-order.

There’s good news on the production front too. You can choose from three different colour combinations, the Nessies are heat resistant up to 200°C or 393 °F and are 100% BPA free. Baby Nessie is made from silicone and the other two from toughened nylon.

You can find out more about these kitchen Nessie’s here.

Crystal magic: Healing mugs

March 17, 2012 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Donna Rollins is an artisan potter and she’s hand-thrown a small collection of “Healing stone mugs”. Firstly, these mugs infuse clay with a number of minerals during the firing process. The next step is to crown each mug with a healing stone to help channel your energy.

The blue mug uses clear quartz which is considered to be very helpful for controlling healing energy.

The purple mug makes use of rose quartz. Many believe rose quartz is an important cyrstal not just for love but for the heart chakra.

The red mug uses tiger’s eye (or cat’s eye as some call it). This is a useful stone to have to help with meditation.

Lastly, the black mug uses citrine which can be used not just for regeneration energies but for boosting self-confidence and financial prosperity.

The mugs can be bought from Uncommon Goods until they sell out.
