Crazy? A great idea? The Octaloofah is ambitious!

December 8, 2014 by Andrew Leave a Comment

Fun in the shower? A much needed back massage in the shower? As the Octaloofah team points out some 50% of Americans have back pain each year and back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the GP.

Would you back this Kickstarter campaign?

[Back this Campaign]

The Octaloofah is looking for $65,000 but you can have one for just $39 if you’re quick and the campaign funds. If you’re not familiar with Kickstarter it works like this;

  1. The team pitch you their idea – in this case; the Octaloofah
  2. To promise them some money if they hit their target
  3. If the target is hit the system automatically collects your money
  4. If the target is missed then you keep your money
  5. You get a reward equal to your pledge level

For the most part it works very well. Sometimes things go wrong. If you’re not sure you can pledge less than the $39. If you love the idea you can pledge a lot more and unlock extra perks.

Tempted by the Octaloofah or do you think this is a crazy idea?

Help make a movie about cryptozoology and the Ningyo

July 5, 2013 by Andrew Leave a Comment

This is a chance to have an image drawn yourself to be transformed into a creature by professional, cinema trained, monster makers. That wish will require a generous pledge to the Ningyo project and if it’s too much then it’s possible to help make this movie come to life with much smaller amounts.

The Ningyo is a new cryptid to me, which shows that I need to read more, but I’ve seen The Green Ruby Pumpkin and it’s a first class short.

Have you helped Kickstart a project before?

The way it works is simple. The project runners set a goal and try and raise money. If you like the project you promise some money – but you don’t give them anything. Not yet. Only if the project hits its goal does any money come out of your account and to them. If the project flops then you don’t spend any money on it.

In order to raise as much money as possible the project owners offer different pledge levels, each one full of promises of treats that you’ll get if you pledge a little more.

Of course, it’s best to read around Kickstarter’s terms and conditions if before you do anything.

Me? I’m backing this project.

Have you also seen The Green Ruby Pumpkin? For a free film; what did you make of it?

Are you going to be supporting this new project?

Must watch: Bendito Machine

July 8, 2012 by Andrew 4 Comments

This is the fourth Bendito Machine episode. You might spot something that looks like the Shell logo in it.

The world of Bendito Machine is one in which a clumsy species relies on their machines, can’t live without them, and are guided by greedy bastards who think they know everything – but don’t. Sound familiar?

Artists on the project include Jossie Malis, an animator of Prevuian-Chilean origin, the German composter Julie Reier, the American story-teller Sxip Shirey and the Spanish Pau Martinez.

The team would like to make more Bendito Machine – but to do this they need to raise money. They’ve turned to Kickstarter for this. Kickstarter works by letting you – people like you and me – say “Okay, if this animation is made then I’m willing to put $10 of my own money in” and for the artists to say, “If you put $10 in and the film is made – we’ll give you a bonus”.

If enough people promise money and the target is met – then the film is made, people get their bonuses and all is well. If not enough people promise money and the target is missed – then no one pays any money as the project isn’t started.

You can promise to support Bendito Machine on Kickstarter. I have. Amazon, the book people, are responsible for sorting out the money promises – that’s a name you can trust.
