Kenyan newspaper The Standard has the story of a teacher called Ngowa who may have been cursed by his ex-girlfriend.

Ngowa left Mombasa, his girlfriend and their child behind in August in order to take up a teaching role in a school in Central Province.

Enraged his ex-partner threatened to strike him insane with a curse.

At his new job in the school Ngowa suffered from depression. Most surprising of all, however, that the disappearance of his shoes.

His shoes would disappear so often that he had to stop buying anything other than the cheapest shoes.

Suspecting a prank or something more malicious he and school invested in increased security for the teachers’ quarters.

Reporter Joseph says that at one point the teacher and school were willing to blame evil spirits on the disappearance of the shoes.

The mystery was not solved until his brother – a trainee teacher – stayed over in the school. The brother witnessed Ngowa sleepwalking to the far end of the school where, still in his sleep, he hid his shoes.

The teacher is currently responding well to treatment and counselling.

It is perhaps easy to imagine how something as quirky as sleepwalking with re-occurring actions would transform from the odd to the scary.

Has anything similar ever happened to you or anyone you know?
